Mingo Rajandi, a composer and double bass player with roots in the Estonian jazz scene, ventures in her artistic aspirations boldly into the freely improvised, the meticulously composed, and the multidisciplinary, often seeking common ground between these. In the last years, she can be found in a theatrical setting as often as on a concert stage.
She is revisiting a more conventional jazz lineup in her quintet, but only on the surface! The group performs her original music that is at times wrapped in elaborate compositional structures or whirling off into energetic improvisational bursts at others but is always rooted in a song - a story to tell, a melody to spell it out. And she really has a great group to deliver them - some of the finest Estonian jazz artists with individual solid voices of their own, they nevertheless fuse into a single energetic organism in live performance.
In august 2020 Mingo Rajandi Quintet released their first album “To Be!” which was nominated as the Best Jazz Album at the Estonian Music Awards 2020.
In the spring of 2020 Mingo won the Estonian Theatre Prize for the best original music and was awarded the prize of the Jazz Composer of the Year. She has also been nominated as the Jazz Musician of the Year.
Mingo Rajandi Quintet has been nominated twice for the Jazz Ensemble of the Year and all musicians are renowned and valued artists in Estonia and abroad.
